The term “Special Needs Kids” encompasses a whole gamut of conditions. It usually relates to a combination of medical, behavioral, educational and social issues. Often, a team based multi-disciplinary approach is needed in these cases. Kids with special needs are very dear to us at Gateway Pediatrics. We understand the challenges that families face in raising a child with special needs and the crucial role the Pediatrician plays as the “medical gatekeeper” of your child’s health.

Children with special health care needs are typically scheduled in longer appointment slots at the end of the day. This gives Dr. Sudha ample opportunity to address the child's multiple health care issues and answer families' questions regarding their child. All sub-specialty referrals and appointments will be arranged by the referral coordinator and communicated to parents in a timely manner. All prior authorizations required by the child's health insurance for specialist appointments, medications, equipment etc will are also obtained by the referral coordinator.

Our front desk is always cognizant of our patients with special health care needs and will ensure your child is scheduled for a same day appointment if sick and in need of medical attention.

Do You Believe That Your Child Has Special Health Care Needs?
A parent has the best instinct, they often can sense if their child has a special health issue.  They can judge if their child is behaving in a different or unexpected way. The next step would be to contact your health professional.  Again, contrary to popular impression, special health care needs may manifest itself at any age, not just when the child is very young.
